Walk Omotesando Shopping Arcade
Omotesando shopping street has momiji manju (maple cake) bakeries; restaurants serving oysters and conger eel; craft shops displaying wooden rice scoops; Miyajima turnery works, and Miyajima wood engraving.
Miyajima's maple trees are renowned throughout Japan, and blanket the island in crimson in the autumn. Momiji manju, (maple cakes) are pastries traditionally filled with azuki jam or custard, but there are many other varieties such as chocolate and cheese. There are very popular souvenirs, and carry maple-leaf emblems. Because the island is seen as sacred, trees may not be cut for lumber.
